Description:

'Land of the Giants' aired on American television from 1968 to 1970. The show was supposed to be a quasi-serious, science fiction series with socio-political overtones. But it suffered from the familiar malady of inexpensive production budgets and cliche script writing that were typical of Irwin Allen's other TV series. Even though most of the series was wasted on plotlines involving malevolent giant male characters, there were at least a few giantess appearances in some episodes. But from those few, even fewer had extended scenes between the giantess characters and the little people. The "Doomsday" episode was an exception to that rule. The giantess/villainess was played by Francine York, who was, at least, pleasant enough in appearance to make the scene work from our perspective. Additionally, it is interesting to note that the "little men in a bird cage" theme seems to be a popular metaphor adopted by many visual artists to portray the female's power to captivate and tame males. This may not exactly be news as far as most men are concerned, but perhaps it can offer some small consolation to all those unfortunate chaps who happen to be struggling for elbow room behind those tiny bars, that they are really only trapped inside a symbolic prison after all. Yeah, right. That helps. Now get your knee outa' my ass and spread out.
