Having trouble uploading my pictures

I need some help with my uploads. I open the file I want, then hit the attach button. But when I preview the pictures all I see are red X's. The picture format is jpeg so I assume that's okay. I must bee missing a step somewhere. Any help would be welcome. Thanks.

Unfortunately, the preview will not create the thumbnail needed. After selecting the file and hitting the attach button, hit the "Submit" button. If that doesn't work, don't worry. I should be able to know more once the message is submitted.
